We understand at Midtown Dental that visits to the dentist can cause a lot of stress and anxiety for patients. This is why our dentists offer IV sedation to help patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their visit.

IV (intravenous) sedation is a conscious sedation treatment, meaning that you will be aware of where you are and what is happening, and able to follow any instructions provided by our dentist. Prior to providing you with IV sedation, you will meet with our dentist one-on-one to discuss your medical history, dental needs and any other relevant factors to determine if IV sedation is the best option for you.

IV sedation provides medication directly into your bloodstream to help you relax quickly and feel comfortable during your appointment. This type of sedation is very safe, but we will monitor you closely throughout your entire treatment to ensure that there are no complications. Patients often feel as though they have slept through their treatment following their procedure and do not recall many of the details of their visit.

You will need to bring someone with you to drive you home from our office. We also recommend that someone remain with you for several hours after you have arrived home, until the medication has worn off.

Oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation that we may recommend to ensure that you have a comfortable experience each time you visit our office. Administered in pill form, oral sedation is simple and easy to use. Because oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation, you will remain awake during the treatment, but you will feel more relaxed and at ease. It is important that you have a family member or friend drive you to and from your appointment to provide maximum safety to yourself and others. When you arrive at our office, you will be awake but extremely relaxed. You may feel drowsy, and it is not unusual for you to not remember all of the details of your appointment.

If you feel anxious, fearful or uncomfortable when visiting the dentist, ask our dental team about nitrous oxide sedation. We offer this mild sedative to help you relax and feel more at ease when receiving treatment in our office.

Do you ever feel nervous about visiting the dentist? Does your upcoming treatment make you feel anxious? If so, you may benefit from nitrous oxide (N20) sedation at our office. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a nitrogen-oxygen mixture that you inhale through a nose mask during your treatment. As you breathe in the nitrous oxide, you will experience a relaxed or even euphoric sensation. Nitrous oxide can help you feel calm and at ease throughout your treatment. Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe: the effects will wear off within just a few minutes after we remove your nose mask, and you can legally and safely drive yourself home after your appointment.

Nitrous oxide is a good option for any of our patients who suffer from dental anxiety or dental phobia. If you feel anxious because you are receiving a treatment you have not experienced before, or if you simply dislike the sounds and sights of the dental office, we may recommend nitrous oxide to help you feel more relaxed. At Midtown Dental, our dentists have extensive training in dental implant placement and restoration. Dr. Vikas Khanna and Dr. Amreesh Khanna, both completed residency training for one year at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Yahsiva University) in New York City.
